Spring Grinding
If your custom spring design calls for your compression or coil spring to be able to stand up straight when oriented vertically, then we can accomplish that through spring grinding. The reasons manufacturers may prefer spring grinding include:
- It allows greater control over spring squareness.
- It helps improve the spring tolerance of loads.
- It creates the ideal spring shape when accurate seating and uniform bearing pressures are required.
- It helps reduce buckling.
- It minimizes solid height.
Our spring grinding machine has two horizontal wheels spaced apart to allow the spring to enter between them length-wise. A separate part of the machine called the spring dish holds the spring while the two grinding wheels grind down the ends.
The spring ends are ground down until the end surfaces are perpendicular to the sides of the spring. When this is accomplished, the spring dish releases the spring into a receiving box, and the spring grinding process is complete.
