The IDC Spring Timeline

  • 1974: The story of IDC Spring begins in 1974 when Gerry Sizer established the Industrial Door Company in his garage. He started the business with $8,000 he borrowed from his father and a pickup truck. 
  • 1976: Two years later, the company purchased its corporate headquarters at 360 Coon Rapids Boulevard in Coon Rapids, Minnesota. With an SBA loan, the Industrial Door Company built the Minnesota Building #2.
  • 1981: In 1981, the company bought Twin City Spring, which was later renamed Industrial Spring. That year, the company produced its first spring. 
  • 1986: In 1986, the company expanded its product line to include residential garage doors and built Building #3 in Minnesota in the same year. 
  • 1998: Gerry Sizer began preparing for retirement in 1998, ushering in new management. Jody Sizer and Jeremy Sizer stepped in as the company’s management, overseeing its day-to-day operations. The company built Minnesota Building #4 that year. 
  • 2000: Gerry Sizer retired officially in 2000, and his daughter Jodi became the president and chief executive officer (CEO) of the company. Jeremy became the vice president and chief operating officer (COO). 
  • 2005: Construction in Coon Rapids, Minnesota, began in 2005 to expand the company’s manufacturing operations. 
  • 2007: Two years later, Industrial Door Company acquired Holmes Spring Manufacturing in Temple, Arizona. It also expanded its distribution to the West Coast. 
  • 2009: In 2009, the company acquired Collier Spring Asset. 
  • 2011: Industrial Door Company changed its name to IDC-Automatic Garage Door in 2011 after acquiring Automatic Garage Door. 
  • 2013: After two years, the company opened a new manufacturing plant in Piqua, Ohio. 
  • 2015: In 2015, the company received the Top 150 Workplaces in Minnesota and Minnesota Family Business awards. Holmes Spring Manufacturing moved from Tempe to Mesa, Arizona, the same year. 
  • 2017: Industrial Spring opened a mechanical spring division in 2017 and became one of the top workplaces in Minnesota. 
  • 2019: In 2019, Industrial Spring and Holmes Spring Manufacturing rebranded to IDC Spring. 
  • 2020: The Star Tribune awarded the company Top Workplace. Construction began in 2020 on the Ohio location’s expansion. 
  • 2021: In 2021, Star Tribune awarded the company Top Workplace once again. 
  • 2022: In 2022, construction began in Minnesota’s corporate headquarters for remodeling and expansion. That same year, Gallagher awarded the company Best-In-Class Employer, while Star Tribune awarded it Top Workplace. 
  • 2023: After a year, IDC Spring acquired O’Neil Sales and received a Top Workplace award from Star Tribune. 
  • 2024: In 2024, IDC Spring will be celebrating its 50th anniversary.
