Mechanical Extension Springs

Understanding Extension Springs

Extension Springs

Extension springs are based on resistance. They are tightly coiled springs that increase resistance as more force is used to pull it out, thereby extending the spring. The general purpose of extension springs is to return moving objects back to their starting positions. The object moves, extending the spring, and the resistance of the extension spring takes effect, pulling it back. This is exactly how a mechanical extension spring functions.

Of course, not all mechanical extension springs are alike. Even the hook or loop at the end of the spring, which one uses to mount the spring, may be a different style or shape depending on the needs or shape of the particular object you are hooking the extension spring to.

Mechanical extension springs are designed specifically for a height and weight of a product. The initial tension is the force that holds the coil together and must be exceeded to get the extension spring working. Although the standard initial tension is appropriate for most extension spring needs, initial tension can be customized for specific situations.

Available Extension Spring Clip Ends

As you will recall, extension springs must be attached to other moving parts in order to do their job, and different parts may require different types of attachment methods. There is a wide variety of clip ends for your custom extension springs. They are typically made by bending the end of the metal extension spring wire into the desired shape. We can provide you with the above ends for your extension springs.
